New Year, New Smile!

January 19, 2016

Dental Care

Each January, millions of people resolve to change their lives for the better in the new year. Often, their goals involve losing weight, getting more exercise, or similar healthy habits.

But there is one resolution that could truly improve your health and your life in many ways – no gym required. It’s a resolution for good dental health.

Not only can a healthy mouth improve your physical well-being, but it can also give you more confidence to help you achieve other positive change in your life. Are you giving your mouth the respect it deserves?

Great Smile, Pure Confidence

It’s no secret that the health of your teeth can make or break your smile. If you don’t like the appearance of your teeth, you may unconsciously cover your mouth with your hand or shy away from interactions with others. This can affect your confidence, making it difficult to do things like ask for a promotion, approach new people, or participate in new, exciting activities you’ve been wanting to pursue.

Even if you don’t realize it, your self-esteem could be suffering and you could be missing opportunities for a happier, more productive life. Others may even perceive your behavior as standoffish or aloof when you don’t intend it to be.

If you’re happy with your teeth, however, you’ll feel relaxed and confident when talking with others in personal and professional settings. You’ll be comfortable in business meetings, on a date, performing a presentation, or taking a class. Having a confident smile can mean the difference between achieving positive goals in your life and just sitting on the sidelines for another year.

Dental Health and Your Body

If you’ve thought about improving your health in 2016, you may want to start with your mouth. The list of diseases linked to poor oral health is extensive. From heart disease to Alzheimer’s to osteoporosis, research has shown that an unhealthy mouth can lead to health problems throughout the body.

The good news is, there are some simple things you can do to improve your oral health this year. Start with daily brushing with a fluoride toothpaste, flossing, and seeing your dentist every six months are basics for healthy teeth. Replace your toothbrush at least every three months – or sooner if it’s showing signs of wear.

Your Dentist, Your Partner in Health

If you are experiencing pain, bleeding, or other problems in your mouth, tell your dentist at Palm Valley Dental in Edinburg. Just as you should see your physician regularly for health problems and screenings, your dentist should be an important part of your health care team. Problems like cavities and gum disease can be treated with the help of a qualified dentist – and the sooner they are treated, the better. Even if you’ve lost teeth or have issues with misaligned teeth, these problems can be corrected to give you the healthy mouth you deserve.

With a little extra effort and attention to your dental health, you can be on your way to a more beautiful smile, a healthier body, and an outstanding year!

My husband and I visited Palm Valley Dental, and it was a rewarding experience. Dr. Torres and Dr. Trevino are so patient, knowledgeable and professional. Caleb, the Dental Hygienist is also very thorough and courteous. The office staff are so pleasant and helpful as well.

Literally, the first time ever at dentist, went in terrified, left informed on my dental care/plan, and scheduled my return visit for the in depth cleaning. Overall, great experience, staff & doctor were attentive, professional and very receptive to all my questions and even the nervousness I displayed.

After experiencing a few negative experiences at a previous dental practice, I cautiously decided to try this new dental place. I had a wonderful first visit here and felt a great relief after my appointment. Everyone I encountered was so kind and friendly, and all my concerns and questions were addressed. I highly recommend. 😊
